What is Companies House identity verification?

Identity verification is a new legal requirement under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. All company directors and PSCs must verify their identity to receive a Companies House personal code.

How much does identity verification cost?

Digital verification starts from £39, with video call verification available from £49. We also offer in-person verification from £59 and priority same-day service at £99.

How long does verification take?

Most digital verifications are completed within 24 hours. The actual identity check takes just 5-10 minutes.

What documents do I need?

For digital verification, you need a biometric passport or UK driving licence. For video call and in-person verification, a wider range of documents is accepted including national ID cards.

If You're Filing Yourself: Step by Step

Log into WebFiling

Go to the Companies House WebFiling service and log in with your company authentication code.

Select "File a Confirmation Statement"

Find and click the option to file your Confirmation Statement.

Review Company Information

Check that all the pre-filled information is correct: registered office, directors, PSCs, shareholders, SIC codes, etc.

Enter Personal Codes

You'll need to enter the Personal Code for each director and PSC. Make sure you have these ready.

Complete Statement of Capital (if applicable)

If you have shares, confirm the current share capital. This may have been updated since last filing.

Pay and Submit

Pay the £50 fee and submit. You'll receive confirmation from Companies House.

Common Issues & Solutions

Filing rejected - director not verified

The director needs to complete identity verification and get their Personal Code first. This takes 5-10 minutes.

Can't find my authentication code

You can request a new one from Companies House. It's sent to your registered office address.

Company details are wrong

You'll need to file change forms separately before (or with) your Confirmation Statement. For example, CH01 for director changes.

Personal Code not working

Double-check you're entering it correctly. If it's still not working, the director/PSC may need to contact Companies House.
